Obviously, you have noted a brief lull in my blogging. Reason: nothing really juicy to share with you until now. After we left the Walmart plaza in Lewisburg, PA. we resumed our drive southward. Whaaaat? A few yards down the highway was the wonderful, famous restaurant/mega gift shop The Dutch Cupboard. We’ve stopped here many times in the past. Had we realized it was so close, we could have spent the night in their parking lot! I could have spent hours oooing and drooling over the trillions of beautiful trinkets and gifts. Their loss; Cory’s gain; my disappointment!
Rain followed us the entire morning. It was chilly so we were wearing jackets and using blankets. At 10:00 AM, we found ourselves stopped in a line of traffic that the truckers said was almost 20 miles long. At 4:30 AM, a trucker had lost control of his big rig and drove over the cement barrier medium @ Duncannon, PA. The accident was cleared but Penn DOT was repairing the wall. One, very annoying trucker kept asking via his CB radio “What’s Going On?.....over & over & over & over, etc. We we’re stuck in this traffic for almost an hour. You
should have heard what other angry truckers told this annoying guy “what was going on”! Even though I covered Trollop Lulu’s sensitive ears, she fainted from all the filth she heard. She may need therapy.
By noon, the rain was stopping and the temperature was rising. Thank you, Mom Nature! Smooth sailing for this day (Yippee). We stayed at a KOA campground in Spotsylvania, VA.
Friday, October 4, 2019, we were back on the road. We were now on I-95. We had traveled our usual way from Wellsville (Rts:15-81-17) and then switched direction, getting onto I-95. Our plan was to stop in Smithfield (where your bacon comes from), NC. to see our friends, Les & DeAnn McKay.
By 1:15 PM, we had arrived at the RVacation RV Campground directly off I-95 (Selma, NC). It a nice campground but you better not speed or the owner will kick you out. You can only go 8 mph or less! We set up and took our car to McKay’s house @ 10 miles away. Great to see them. We miss their companionship. Les is a skilled woodworker. The furniture he makes, using black walnut wood, is gorgeous. Worthy for royalty.I wish
you could see his craftsmanship. His skills do not stop here. He is also a trained barber. He trimmed my wispy hair in the back as well as Cory’s hairy neck region on his back. Perfect. So much talent in his magic fingers. He is also a master bagpiper. One time, we did an outdoor antique show together. Les played his pipes outside their tent for the entertainment of all around. Festive times! DeAnn has been my friend since 1972. We worked together as nurses at our local hospital in Wellsville. She has been a wonderful friend! They lived in Andover, NY (close to WellsiIle) before moving to N.C. four years ago. After our haircuts, Les and DeAnne began their ritual “Happy Hour”. I think it lasted much more than an hour as we chatted away like cackle birds. We went out to “Grandson’s Buffet” for supper. It’s like the Trough (Golden Corral). Another pig-out session under my belt. Too good; too much!
We returned this morning (Saturday) to their home. “Yard Saling”was the agenda for the day. DeAnn had organized all the sales on their GPS so Les hopped, skipped and jumped from one place to another just
like a Uber driver. It was fun. We even picked up a couple tiny trinkets. We stopped at a flea market and found some memorabilia. Cory found an old metal jeep that looked like the one he drove as a teenager. I couldn’t resist having Cory hold the Buckaroo game as that is one of several names I call him: Bucky, Buck, Buckaroo, Hey, you! I had to take pictures of a couple gorgeous, frilly dresses that I knew Lulu would want to see. She loves frills. She would have made us buy these for her had she been along, She strives to standout in a crowd!
I had contacted my cousin, Mary Ellen, about going to see her. She lives in Cary, NC. To make it easy on us, she had us meet her at an Ale House in Garner, NC. Wonderful seeing her again. I have only her as my only living relative and another cousin who won’t talk to me because of political reasons. We visited and laughed over a tasty meal. I’ve missed being with her!
We tried to make reservations at our campground for Sunday (tomorrow) but they had no sites open....rats! Our
plan was to try and visit two nieces who also live in this area. Sadly, that plan won’t work out this trip.
Our travels begin again in the morning. Be sure to get up early enough so you can help us unhook and get back on the road. Many hands make light work.
Yawn! Bedtime now. Good-night!
P.S. Just a reminder.....you are scrolling way down to see all the 12 photos....right?

Jeep Memories
Cory and I spent many hours in both of the family jeeps....the old blue one and the newer red one. In fact Cory drove us to Bradford PA in the red one in August of 1961 to get our senior class portraits taken.
