It was an early start, leaving the house just after 7am to drive to the airport and return the hire car.
After checking in and going through Immigration, I met up with Paula and Sharon in Duty Free and we went up to the lounge to wait for our flight to board.
CX146 made a 1 hour stop at Cairns, before continuing on to Hong Kong. There were a few bumps during the flight but it was reasonable and after 11 hours all up, we landed at Hong Kong airport at 8:20pm.
Our transit time was supposed to only be 4 hours 15 minutes, but due to riots outside Hong Kong airport, transport links were shut down and many flights were delayed. Our flight was re-scheduled for a very late 02:40 takeoff (a delay of 2.5 hours). Consequently, we were pretty shattered by the time we boarded.
Arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport was very efficient and quick. Our AirBnB host, Carlo, had arranged for a minivan pickup for us from the airport. Manrico met us in the Arrivals hall and it took about half an hour to get to our apartment in Trastevere
at Piazza di Sant'Apollonia, 3, 00153, Roma.

We went for a quick walk up the street to find a mini-market to buy some immediately needed supplies for the day and breakfast (bread, butter, jam, milk, etc.).
Jo flew in from London and her cab arrived not long after we got back from our shopping foray.
As we were all exhausted, we had a lay down for a few hours to rest and got up in time for dinner, at a restaurant a few streets away.
By the time dinner was over, we all were overtired and couldn’t wait to get into bed.
