Hi All,

From Zhaoxing it was back to CongJiang bus station to find out that there are no buses that go to BaSha so we had to take a taxi, 30 rmb, to BaSha village. The taxi dropped us off at the ticket office, 40 rmb, and then we took the tour bus up to the village. We stayed in the hotel, name I cannot remember, which is just to the left of the village square. The view of the valley from our window was amazing. The hotel also had a great restaurant on the ground floor.

BaSha village is a wonderful collection of hamlets that are pretty much unspoilt by tourism. There are some huge wooden racks that are used in the autumn to dry the rice grass. Alongside these there are also a great many rice stores. People around the villages were very friendly especially the children who loved shouting out "Hello".

Three times a day at 9.30, 11.30 and 3.30 there is a show of Miao culture put on in a performance square high above the village. They played bamboo instruments and performed traditional dancing. They also demonstrated how a traditional marriage ceremony is conducted. A local girl was "married" to one of the visiting tourists. They had to consume a very large amount of rice wine at only 10 am in the morning, to much hilarity. Lastly the men shot their antique rifles which made a wonderful noise. This show is not included in the ticket price and costs an extra 40 rmb.

Being able to relax for a few days after walking on average 10 kms every day has been wonderful. Also because there is no bus directly to the village it keeps the amount of tourists down to a very bare minimum making the village very quiet especially in the evening when all the daytrippers have left.

Enjoy the Photos

JAH BLESS
