After leaving Airlie Beach, a fantastic 13 hour bus journey south, to take us to Hervey Bay.
The only reason I can find that anyone goes to Hervey Bay is to visit Frasier Island! Frasier Island is the world’s largest sand Island and is 124km long by 15 wide. So off we go on a 2 day 1 night tour, with our fantastic guide Terry. 4 * 4 is the only way to get around on this place; it has over 2000km of sand tracks and about 2 of tarmac. Makes for good fun though, when you’re bouncing around in the back of the truck. Not so good just after brekkie though.
We start out tour being told that it lethal to enter the water on the coast line of the Island, due to the fact that there is a strong under current in the water, and once that has finished dragging you out to sea, there is a large population of Tiger Shark waiting to feast on you. Not only that, but there are over 150 feral dingo's that are free to roam the Island. So your not safe on the Island, your not safe in the sea,
Lake Wabby
Green due to the grass growing on the bottom. what the hell are we doing there??
First stop is Lake McKenzie, which is a fresh water lake situated 100km about ground level. This is like a snap shot of a post card. The water is so clear you can see every thing. You could spend all day here just lazing around on the white sand, but we are on a tight schedule so we are forced to only spend 1 1/2 hrs lazing in the water before we have to move on.
On to Lake Wabby, which is a 45 min walk through the rain forest. Left to our own devices by our tour guide, we trek in to the jungle wondering what the hell lies out there waiting for us. Let’s just say every rustle of the leaves sent us all into a bit of a frenzy. But we make it to the lake safe & well. The lake is full of cat fish, which are huge but they can't hurt us so we got in for a dip. The only problem with this dam Island is the Marsh Flies that are around this time of year. They are about twice the size of a wasp
at home, and they just land on you and sting like a mozie! Only problem is there are millions of the buggers. We spent the whole 2 days slapping each other around trying to kill them, awful things I tell you.
The whole Island really is picture perfect. The view from India Head, should give you a clear sighting of the Tiger Shark and any other marine life that is about. But of course it being us, there was nothing to see when we were there. We also went for a walk down Eli Creek, which has been created by the sea coming in off the beach. We were just wandering down slowly when I spy with my little eye, a nice little (2ft) snake sitting in the tree. It was just sitting on a branch, hanging over the creek.... instead of running away, we all whack out cameras out and start taking pics, making sure we got a good one! What the hell is wrong with us? I really think we have lost all fear of the wild. I mean we're safe now, we're not in Thailand any more, right!
What really made the tour was out
guide, he knew everything about anything. He was filling us in on the history of the trees the sights everything. I loved the fact that the East Coast Beach is used as the Highway between the North & South of the Island. Well nobody uses the beach to sun bathe and dip, and surely no one is stupid enough to surf, so why the hell not turn it into a road! Excellent idea. The only problem is when the tied comes in and you can't move down the shore any more. Basically if you are running late, you might not be getting home that night! Never mind.
We have now left Hervey Bay, and have come down to Maroochydore. The land of Australia Zoo. Yes you've got it. Home of the Crocodile Hunter. I must admit it was very sad to hear that Steveo died before we came over, but the zoo is a living testament to all the work he has done to preserve the native wild animals of Australia.
We had a wicked time, and you can see the pics of all the animals we got to see. I must do if you’re ever in this
part of town...

Thought you were joking
I know we spoke about it but I never for one moment thought you were serious about using that tin of spray on fake tan!
