Day 13. Havana return

Good meal last night with red wine and gentle music in background with good keyboard player. Maybe best meal yet and maybe best sleep.
Breakfast of fruit, followed by bacon, ham, tomato and scrambled egg. Out into a hot day of 30 degrees again and little cloud. Some climbing past some decent sized dairy farms with Jersey type cows, which may be a cooperative of some sort since they had the odd new tractor about of Chinese origin. Of great interest was the multitude of pony and traps on the roads today with heir best harness and bells jingling. We must have been 100 or so throughout the morning with all the family on board, which we believe were going to a regular gathering of such families and horses. The climb was on small roads which were in Lancashire style with potholes and rough surfaces. Once back on the level we headed west towards Havana in slightly better roads through sugar cane country with the odd refinery chimney here and there. On one of our rest and refreshment stops we called at a small cabin with a lady selling canned drinks and coffee by the thimble full, which tasted great and only cost 1 Cuban Peso - 4p. Our final piece of riding was to the Villa Tropico inclusive resort by the coast 55km east of Havana where we stripped our own bits off the bikes. Following this we had a very nice lunch and free drinks and use of all facilities during our stay. The sea was quite warm for my paddling and very pleasant as long as I avoided the poisonous Portuguese Ship jelly fish washing up on shore. Richard W thought it great fun to keep throwing them back in before he found the free drink stall which acted like a magnet to many. At 4pm we were back on the coach heading for the very nice Memories Miramar hotel in Havana passing through an industrial area with oil wells and a few rusty nodding donkeys plus a refinery. Once back at the hotel we said our goodbyes to the team of Hose Lento, the fun loving driver, Ali, our super fit and lovely mechanic, followed by Lismar our extremely fit, knowledgeable super efficient guide for the last two weeks. We will be picked up for the airport at 4.30 on Monday afternoon for our flight home to Blighty, where it is blighty cold at the moment with snow and ice up north.
