Today was moving day, after breakfast we left Batu Ferringhi to move to a new hostel in the capital of Penang called George Town. As we are now booking rooms whilst on the move and at late notice, finding somewhere is now always much more hit and miss and therefore we have been left with a much smaller range of properties available. We didn't want to overdo it, but did see a nice little place, very modest of the hostel variety in the centre of town. We can't see what it says from up here on the 17th floor but it is something along the lines of the Sheraton Penang. We really are the worlds most useless backpackers.

We checked in to our lowly digs at about midday, and found they have a lovely blue paddling pool on the sundeck of the 4th floor, so we decided to go have a wash and took our soap on a rope's with us.

We have spent this afternoon having a wander round George Town. It is a strange place - the guidebooks big up some of the temple's and museums which don't actually look that great. It has given us a chance however to catch up on plans for the next few days as we head down through the Cameron Highlands (The Lakehouse) to Kuala Lumpur in our newly rented hot rod - a Proton Wira or something equally high performance. Both Buzz and Surrell would be so proud of my choice of wheels. Clare seems to be taking the driving seat as she has been missing road rage opportunities.

Clare did manage to call home earlier - albeit the idea of it being a short phone conversation when it was between Clare and her Mum filled me with dread. Clare had lined up the best part of 5o quid in coppers for the conversation until I managed to slow her down.

It is now chucking it down tonight - our panoramic view from the "hostel" is being diminished as we speak. I must send out some Malayan's down to the rain temple for me and sort it out.

Tonight we are catching up with Laura of OCSL fame in George Town for a curry and a beer, before leaving our "grot hole" in the morning. Next update may be Sunday/Monday once we reach KL.

The Biggest Richest Hobo,

Dan

I see the rain does not only stay in Spain and the UK then!
Hi Clare and Dan this is the first time I am trying out the alternative method of communication on your blog- I hope it works. Mum phoned me to say she had spoken to you this morning - sorry I missed you. Her take on the time was just a few minutes. I think I will await to see the phone bill before I decide whether Dan or Mum's view was correct! I also understand you have moved on from driving Dan mad to driving a country mad! Take care. Remember too that a Tamil tiger is not a cuddly item to keep - they usually keep you! I hope you have fun and keep your head down. LOL Dadx

You love the blogging
Guys, loving the amount of blogging! Sounds like you are having a fantastic time. Dan - that meal you had where the old chinese women kept sending you grub sounds awesome mate. You got the 'tache underway yet?! Loving the fact you did some T'ai Chi - i reckon you should do a martial art in each of the countries you visit! England sucks. :-)
