Our journey Started in crazy Bangkok!!! Arrived at Bangkok new airport! It's nice, but in no way prepared us for the hectic suburbian monsrocity that exisited outside!!We managed to blag a taxi with a couple of German guys meaning we only paid 150 Baht each for a 1 hour direct trip to Khao San Road. When we got there we departed company with the Germans but we knew it was not goodbye! We aimlessy strolled up and down Khao San Road searching for an ideal room, but found ourselves relying on our own sence of experience, We were mistaken!
We were blagged by a Tuk Tuk driver to goto the Royal Thailand hotel as he said it was nice. (i must advise this was not the first or the last time we were to be told lies by Bangkok Tuk Tuk drivers!) Anyway the room was expensive by Bangkok standards and was not upto our standards in anyway - but we dumped our bags and headed off into the abyss known as Bangkok's seedy backpackers paradise.
When we got there we imediately ordered large Tiger beers (A brand we have only become too familier with, along with Chang and a cheaper
veriosn caled Leo!!!)
Anyhow we bumped into the Germa guys again as forseen and all headed off to Shamrock irish bar for more punishment. (They had been o a bender since we dropped them off, so were well up for a party). There was a good Thai band playing and the beers were flowing, the Germans were paying for all the beers it was great! or so i thought! It turns out that Jo reckons one of them may have been on my case. I just put it down to German friendlyness, which i must admit i haven't realy previously experienced! We headed back to the hotel late i ended up playing snooker with sme Bulgaria guy who was there on business.... I was battered and thought i was Steve Davis, he laughed, I lost badly!
Woke up next morning with serious hangover, and we had to head out to find new accomodation. We managed to get somewhere right next to Khao Sa Road caled Ramputtri Inn (it had a swim pool on rof and only cost 700 Baht) which was cool. Once sorted we headed off in seach of the travel agents to pick up our train tickets to
Koh Phangan however got lost and had to get a Tuk Tuk back and look up the address on the net !! It turns out th Travel Agent was only 5 mins from where we were staying, (i blame jo for taking on us on an unplanned tour of backstreet Bangkok) Eventually got our tickets and chilled out. We went off to see the Grand Palace which is cool, we finaly got there after being lied to by many Tuk Tuk drivers which seemed to become an everyday occurance. In the eve we ended up back on Khao San Road for another Heavy one. We met some realy cool Irish guys and partyed hard with them, playing pool etc.. We had Sambucas and whiskey and got wrecked again. Next day we got to the train station ato get our sleeper overnight train to Suritanni. This was crazy as 1st class was pants and again met some more crazy Germans. The Cabin boy said that previous train arived late as it hit a bus, but no worries as no one died!!! we laughed nervoulsy and slept the same. Got to Surritani and had a long journey to the ferry port and then another to Koh Phangan. Next adventure to follow!
