Yet again suffered the vagaries of Latam airways. They would not exchange the vouchers they had given us which would have covered the cost of the extra luggage! At Lima we had a driver collect us and take us down town where we met a guide who, considering this was the capital city, had the worst English of any guide we have had. However, her knowledge of the Cathedral was excellent and made the visit much better than if we had just wandered in. Down town Lima now has not many restaurants and hotels but is mainly some colonial buildings, Cathedral and Presidential and administrative stuff. So, we drove through the very busy streets to Miraflores by the coast where all the rich people moved out of town to. There is a very nice park overlooking the sea with statue of two lovers and down below there are loads of surfers. Alongside the edge of the bay which is all of volcanic lava there is an amazing rock formation which reminded us of Uluru in Australia. The best bit of the day was going to La Rosa Nautica for lunch. This is a gorgeous restaurant on a pier over the sea. A bit pretentious but probably one of the nicest meals we have had in Peru. Stefan had carpaccio of octopus and then a prawn dish. I had crispy prawns in a miso sauce and then Lasagne of the sea and a very nice bottle of rose. Our driver had waited for us so after it was back to the airport hotel. The following morning, we were back at the Latam check in. (Will never fly with them again!). They have no lounge so gave us vouchers for drinks etc. We went to the lounge with our Priority passes only to find the queue was so long to get in ,it wasn’t worth it so went back to the café to use our vouchers for a couple of drinks. Gave one of the vouchers we didn’t use to some kids on the next table. Finally, on the business flight to Santiago- excellent service and my bear got good service too. At the other end we were whisked by Silversea to the San Cristobal Hotel- super room- best yet. There were drinks and snacks provided in the bar in the evening. Luggage had to be outside the door by 2am so we had to reduce everything to carry on only. For the first time ever, I had not set the alarm properly so we were woken at 5am to say the bus was waiting. We had 5 minutes to get up and get down to the bus! We did make it believably or not. This was for the flight to Ushuaia and the start of our next adventure.
