Baishucun fishing village

After a train trip from the nine twist river to Xiamen, a few nights been there, I reached Baishucun. It is fishing town that is about 30 minutes, by high speed train, northeast of Xiamen.

Once I got off the train, passing the usual crowd of people, tuktuk, street vendors, cars and motorbikes, I took a bus heading toward Baishucun village along the coast; on either sides I could see so many fishing boats of the fishermen dragged on the shore.

It is a cruddy village but what caught my eye and love of these places is the charming ambiance that I felt while admiring those old boats full of everything, hard to discern, and the people selling the fresh catch of the fishermen, with their unique smile that opens your heart.

"My inscrutable Chinese people" their lifestyle, positivity, simplicity are just unique.

They are never vulgar and when I am around them I always feel a great sense of harmony and peace which are the values of Chinese society since ancient times.

Living this experience, reminded me when I was a child and, with my father, we went to the market to buy fresh fish. I very much miss the old traditions and cultures,in the western world, that are not observed anymore and that sooner or later will disappear forever.

Sunset was also dramatic with its red and yellow hues even though setting just behind those horrendous concrete blocks, rising high in the sky, ruined a bit the otherwise stunning panorama.

It is a perfect, genuine and authentic escape from the busy and touristic city of Xiamen. I just fell in love with that.

The balance
It's a lovely way you describe that connection you felt here... some countries are much better at finely balancing old traditions and modern societies than others. I don't think it's something that can be forced, or you end up with the old traditions dressed up at kitsch nostalgic remnants :)

Baishucun Fishing Village
I have spent most of my time inland in China and while the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers are lifebloods of their own there is nothing like the hive of activity of an ocean fishing village. On my next trip to China I must include some coastal villages so thanks for the gentle reminder Marcos.

Thanks for checking in Dave!! China is one of the very few countries in which the society is still pure and this meant a lot for me. Best place to visit the fishing villages is with no doubt Fijian province. Take care
