The Adventure Begins

The adventure began at the airport. (In case you wonder why this blog is in English: after speaking English so much I tend to forget Dutch words). Granted, checking in and going through customs wasn't new for me, but travel distance and travel time definitely were, making it feel different than ever before. Instead of tiny aeroplanes that have taken me to places such as London, Sofia and Rome, this aeroplane was divided in several sections and there were 10 seats in each row instead of 6. They gave us a pillow and a blanket, we had our own TV screen and since the middel row in front of me had 3 seats instead of 4, I had a lot of space for my legs. All meals and drinks were included, and it was delicious! I had chicken with rice and a chicken sandwich later in the flight, some Bailey's as a treat and did I mention it was free?

Well.. although the second flight started even better, in an bigger plane with more free stuff (toothbrush, sleepingmask and even socks!), this flight was a nightmare. I know I shouldn't complain and I'm lucky to travel this far, but rarely have I felt as terrible as during that 6 hour overnight flight. But I won't dwell on that. The taxi to the hostel was perfect, the temperature is warm and comfortable and as far as I could see from the taxi, it's beautiful here!

I'm also staying in this adorable hostel where you have to take your shoes off and can use a slide to get downstairs.

The first evening, we went to Khao San Road to get something to eat. It was a very lively (alright, chaotic) street and the food was amazing.

Then on Monday, we did the Co van Kessel bicycle tour. Big thanks to everyone who recommended the tour to me: I loved it! During the trip I offered flowers to the biggest Buddha of Bangkok and saw lots of beautiful buildings, cute tiny streets and a flower market. Everyone here is so friendly, greeting each other and smiling, it feels great! Met a lot of great people already.

During breakfast, we were joined by an Australian guy, Myles, who ended up tagging along with Emma and me the entire day. On our way to the Grand Palace, we heard that it wasn't open yet and were advised to take a boat trip instead. We took a tuktuk there, breaking our how to never take one of those touristic things but it was actually fun and very cheap. The boat was probably overpriced, but I loved it and don't regret doing the trip for a minute. The boat brought us to Wat Arun, a beautiful temple, after which we finally went to the Grand Palace. I don't even know yet what we're doing tonight, but based on the past few days it is bound to be fun!

Ignore my non-matching outfit, I didn't have a matching shirt with sleeves and without sleeves I wasn't allowed in...

Nice start
Great first experience in Bangkok, Anne! Although the six hours in the airplane were terrible, it's just a tiny part of your trip. Nice Bangkok pictures btw!
