Train Ride to Koh Samui

The next leg of our journey is to Koh Samui for the famous (in Thailand) New Year’s Eve celebration and full Moon bash. We had prebooked our train ride on line, thank goodness as it was full. The express train from Hua Hin to Sarat Thani is way faster than the normal trains and consists of just 3 2nd class cars. Very nice seats with a meal given to us. The trip is about 400Kilometers and took about 5 hours that doesn’t count the slight delay when we hit a cow.

Sarat Thani is a non descriptive commercial town. With very aggressive sales people after 20 times saying no to people wanting us to book a cab to our hotel that was a half hour away for 450 to 800 Baht ( Thai dollars) we met a good guy outside the train station who hooked us up for 200 Baht. That’s about 6 bucks. Spent the night at the modern high rise Diamond Plaza Hotel a 3+ star hotel. Good value at $28.

The next morning after fighting off the bell hops and sales shills we took a cab in the street (100 baht) to the Seatran bus terminal for the 1-1/2 hr ride to the ferry pier. And rode the Seatran ferry to Koh Samui.

Got a cab. Which is a old Datsun pickup with a canopy and bench seats in the back for the 45 minute ride to The Fair House Beach Resort. Cab rides in these convenient pickups are 100 Baht each person for anywhere on the Island. They drive around all day picking up people. So you may have it to yourself or share it with 10 other riders.

Very nice Villa ar the Fair House Resort right on the beach. Free breakfast buffet included.

Next post in 4 days as we will be busy Swimming relaxing Shopping and going to the crazy party. Supposed to be 50 thousand people at the beach party looks like mostly Europeans and Aussies. Maybe 2 Americans if I can stay awake that long
