Well, we need to clarify yesterday's post. We suggested only Superman could view the Acropolis from Nick's apartment. Early in the evening we observed some stairs, climbed to the roof and what we saw is captured in the first picture. We suppose Nick thought us to be a little brighter than is the case.

Nick recommended a restaurant a couple of doors down from the apt. It was simply amazing. We were the only tourists, no English menu so we were taken to the kitchen and selected our meals. Began with an excellent Greek salad, which we had again for lunch today. Bird had a stuffed eggplant, while HP sampled meat that was wrapped in green leaves, possibly grape. Nope, don't really know what either was, but ate everything. We're going back again tonight. We think we may have lost a bit of weight at Istanbul, but working now on retrieving it. By the way Baby Bird, the bread was just how you like it, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside.

As for today, we trekked up the hill (steep, long hill at that) to the Acropolis. We had previously thought the Parthenon covered a significant majority of the ground. Well, no, maybe fifteen percent. There are a number of additional buildings, but obviously the Parthenon is by far the attraction.

The Parthenon was constructed during the middle and later 5th century BC, well before the Romans perfected the arch. Thus there are a great many columns...great, they look fabulous.
