Arrived in Bangkok this morning, early. They got us up at six'ish and the train got in Bangkok central Station at 7:10.
Took my time to hike ~ an hour to the Dutch embassy and got some breakfast at diverse stands and a bakery. At first, I found d the sewery smell a bit overwhelming, but I got used to it. Made some pictures. Even saw a crocodile or lizard swimming in one of the cana.. Make that open sewers.
Dutch embassy was not too helpful, due to the fact that the passport was not really 'lost'. I had to take my own council. Nata, by this time, had already offered to send it to me today, so I decided to try to get a train ticket to kanchanaburi without it. The railway is not connected to the other one and on the other side of the river. I got a bit closer by riding the 'skytrain' and (thanks google!) found a ferry to save me a 45m walk.
Had no trouble getting a ticket here 😊. 13:55 in a local train, standard class. That's about 3 more hours. First things first: booked a hostel. Talked to Nata
in Mae Rim. New plans, I go to Kanchanaburi and this is the address 😊
.. Thought it might be nice to get a Thai massage during that time. Went back to the ferry. Saw some locals get tickets for 10 or 20 bath, went to the booth, showed my one-way hop-on/hop-off ticket. They wouldn't accept it. The explanation was that the one-way ticket is not for hop on/off. If I wanted to go one pier further than the 10 I've had, I had to pay 50 bath again. And another 50 for the way back. And she refused to let me upgrade my ticket to a back-and-forth version by paying even more (+130 for a total of 180). It's only 1,25 euro, but.. I don't like rip-offs. And there were other options.
Opted for something else instead. (woohoo! Freedom! I can do whatever I want :D) My sandals are starting to wear in, but now I have huge blisters on my own soles. Walking is no fun anymore. Layed about a bit in the park, tried some Thai fast food (pork chops with rice and onions. sooo spicy!) and bought some supplies for the road. Got back
An hour early to relax a bit more. Tried to give away my railway ticket, but no one seemed to want it :/
I got confirmation from Nata in Mae Rim. She had the passport! And it was in the mail. Should arrive by Thursday 😊
The only thing (apart from the postal service) that could fail me now, was that the hostel might not accept me without the passport.
Oh and a weird-ass message from my internet provider: 'Welcome to 3G2100 Package (Domestic only). You will get Free Internet Fix Speed 64Kbps Unlimited a month.' and 'Internet 1Mbps and AIS SUPER WiFi 7 Days cannot be activated. The system will try again later.'
It still seems pretty fast.well see.
Near the train, I met Ali and Sophia, who were just starting their second leg of the journey and had another hostel in kanchanaburi lined up for them. Traded some experiences, photos, Facebook accounts (hi you guys! If you read this, it's just me blathering about stuff that happened 😊)
The train ride was without further incident. I arrived at the hostel at the same time everyone else came in. My passport-copy was accepted! And
it was OK to send the passport here. better late than never :p
After a refreshing shower, I felt like a proper human being again 😊. There are some nice people here 😊
Everything seems to be going smoothly. And there's even wifi here. First signal that works, in mont.. Days! :D it's like a tiny oasis in a desert of broken wifi.
Edit: I've got some video of the lizard creature and of the interesting Bangkok traffic, but thus site has 'temporarily disabled' videos. I may use YouTube for the short clips (~10s), but it's already to much of a hassle getting the photos in order. Maybe later.
Oh and it's possible to comment here. Even subscribe. Knock yourselves out 😊
