First up a trip to the museum which was jolly good. Lots of old stuff they had dug up and some very good interactive explanations. We met an interesting character on the park bench on the way - see the photo.
Lunch was a famous Icelandic hotdog, very yummy but too messy for photos. Then I discovered I am world famous in Iceland. I went to the bus station to get tickets for the afternoon's adventure and the girl behind the counter says 'excuse me for asking a strange question, but did you go to school with me in Italy?' She was right, we were at the language school in Castelraimondo at the same time. Then to really cap the story off, Linda says as I join her outside 'they must just about know you in there by now'.
Anyway, the highlight of the day was our tour down into a volcano. Fortunately it was extinct, and therefore only about 4 degrees C inside. This is reputed to be the only extinct volcano that hasn't collapsed or blown apart. We walked about 3km to the base and get suited up in helmets and harnesses then up the top to
where they have one of things that window washers use on high buildings. We disappear 120m into the bowels of the volcano. Words don't cut it - just look at the photos.
The scenery above ground is quite stunning too so lots of photos this blog.
And for those of you wondering what the temperature above ground is, well it is about 11degC most days and clear. We have been very lucky.
