blog 10-17-17 Zion National Park
Ginnie got up at 7 am to turn the propane heater on to keep from freezing to death. It was pitch black outside so she went back to bed in the hopes of warming up. It was after 8 when we all got up, late for us but the time changed so we weren't used to it. It was getting light outside so we did get up and started to move around.
It was about 10:30 before we got into the car to drive to Zion. I had read that the Visitor Parking Lot filled by mid morning and the only other place to park was in Springdale where you could catch a free shuttle to the park. So it wouldn't be terrible but definitely time consuming. There was a construction delay on the road leading to Zion which took about 15 min. Once we were back on our way we opted to enter the park and take our chances on parking. The lot was packed with cars just driving around hoping to get lucky to find someone leaving. We did just that and got lucky, someone was leaving and we jumped right in.
At the Visitor's Center we got our books stamped and took a quick look at the gift shop then hoped the shuttle that takes you into the park. Our first stop was the Museum where there was a view out back that called for a picture. Picture.
Then we're back on the shuttle and stopped at the Weeping Wall. There was just a quick hike to see the wall and vegetation growing as a result. The only issue was a steep hill was between us and the wall. As we were debating whether to do the hill or not a man came down and said we just had to go up, the view was well worth it as was the wall. How could we say no after that.
The walk wasn't bad at all and it was refreshing to see water dripping from the wall in a desert climate. There were ferns and other plants growing on the wall and even moss. As we turned around there was a waterfall in drops lit by the sun coming from the wall and it just begged for a picture. Picture.
There was a man standing there and asked
if I'd like my picture taken. I said yes and called for Ginnie to come over to join me. He did a really good job as evidenced with the picture.
The trip down didn't take long at all and we grabbed the next shuttle and went to the Lodge for lunch. We got in line to order a sandwich and in a short time we were outside having lunch under the patio. I heard singing and turned around to see the bar tender singing Irish pub songs for his own entertainment. He was pretty good and kept several people entertained while having lunch.
We hoped a bus back to the visitor center and went to the gift shop for a T shirt and a sticker for my water bottle. Ginnie got a few items and was very happy with what she got. We found the car with little effort and headed home to the dogs. We were home earlier than normal and they said HI then went back to sleep.
Ginnie took a nap and I took the computer outside to see what we were going to do next week. We have changed plans and I'm still
not sure where we are going yet. Another day or so, we'll figure it out.
We enjoyed happy hour outside because the temperature was a little warmer but as the sun went down so did the temp and we went in for dinner. The bobcat eluded us today so no picture.
Tomorrow we head to Page, AZ by way of UT, then AZ then UT then back to AZ. We have to avoid a road with a tunnel because the motorhome is too high to make it. It should be a picturesque ride.
We have really enjoyed this campground very much, lots of room at each site, the dog bath area, nice laundry facilities and it looks like a neighborhood, lots of trees and grass, and a dog park. I'll take pictures tomorrow.

The canyons
Loved Zion. You are looking up from the bottom. At Bryce you are on the same level and at the Grand Canyon you are at the top looking down. All worth seeing. Loved your pictures!
