Okay, me and a mate are going to spend around two and half months travelling europe this summer...starting in brussels, then amsterdam,Germany,Italy and then the rest of it will be spent in eastern europe until we head back home...How much would you recommend I'd need?I mean it'll be all cheap hostels and won't spend an awful lot on food...How cheap can ya afford to go though??....

If anyone has been through a similar Journey then your advise would be much appreciated.. Reply to this

Hello Brigid 😊

Hostels cost 15 to 20 Euros per night in Ireland. There are more expensive ones but you could try aiming for the cheaper ones.
For buying things in supermarkets in Ireland countries like Germany or The Netherlands cost around 70% of what Ireland costs. Ireland is a relatively expensive country. If you have travelled in England the costs in Ireland are comparable to there.

Oops!! I misread your post completely.
Not including intercity transport I would say 30 to 50 Euros per day for Estonia and Italy would be a backpackers budget. That would however be quite basic but it is what I spend when I travel in Europe.

What intercity transport costs depends on how many bargains you can hook. Last year I flew from Munich to Mardrid for 29 Euros including tax. I also flew from Munich to Paris and Munich to Rome and a few more for the same price. I also took overnight trains from Munich to Berlin and Munich to Hamburg for 29 Euros including tax. But they were catch them while they fly past types of bargains.

hey Brigid, i reccomend u buy the book europe on a shoestring, it pretty much outlines the cost of staying in the different countries and how much they would think ud need for a day. ive spent my last 2 summers travelling around europe and i know im gona sound really dumb just i actually cant mind how much i took but all i do know is that money lasts twice as long in eastern europe and we thought it was so much more beautiful. u should get urself a rail pass to get you around the more central countries but be warned u may still have to pay a supplememt particularly on the faster trains. Buses are quite cheap in eastern europe and we found that the further down we went the cheaper things got. Reply to this

Hi for Italy I would suggest you hostels or self catering apartments/houses . I think it is the best solution and also the most convenient one! It depends if you rent a car or if you travel by rail in Italy you may also spend a week south of Rome near the beaches and at short distance from the city centre. If you look at the web sites homelidays.com or villarenters.com you may find the best solution also searching by location and busget. For example South of Rome there are nice towns very well connected to Rome & Naples by train (i.e. LAtina , Sezze etc..) . I suggest you the same solution for Venice while for Florence you may look at B&B web sites.
If you need any further help let me know...Ciao & have fun Reply to this

the south of Europe is enought cheap. I tell about Spain, Italy, Greece. Amsterdam is cheap
too. I slept in a camping for 6 euro for night.

If you are looking for a cheap accomodation you can try to look at www.flashbooking.com

I've done 5 european backpacking trips. Plane ticket plus $2500 Canadian a month, approximately. This includes budget accomodations, transportation (trains, busses between cities), budget eating (breakfast and lunches from grocery stores, deli's, roadside stands and dinners in basic cheap restaurants or take out food), shopping, souveniers and entrance into attractions. This only includes limited drinking. Reply to this

WELL ! for your trip i thinq...5000 EURO its OK ( 7-8000 US Dollars ), include the trains tickets acomodations, art & historical objective entrance, but make hotels reservation from you travell agency for not have surprise to not found free roms.
For example, i go from 1 june on 20 days EUROPEAN TOUR , with 1500 Euro ( used on VISA & MASTERCARD ) and 500 euro cash. But i have HOTEL reservation and trains tickets, valid on all European Union on Bussines Class . Reply to this

For cheap accomodation google hostels and the name of the city or town you want to go to. A range of hostels will come up. Some are very cheap. You can also book them on the internet but you will need a credit card to to do this.
