Staying in Monasteries in Italy

I think my friends and I are going to mostly stay in monasteries in Italy. But do they have electrical outlets in the rooms? I have to charge digital camera batteries!

Hi readers,

Is there anyone out there reading who can tell me whether or not most monasteries that people can stay in have electrical outlets in the rooms? I wondered about this since a lot of them don't have televisions and do not allow you to use a watch or portable CD players while you are there. I just want one so I can use my charger to charge digital camera batteries. Does anyone know if they do? Thanks! Reply to this

I don't have a good answer, because I've only stayed in one monastery. I was planning on staying in a number of monasteries, but found that they weren't as accessible by public transportation as expected so I ended up in hostels instead. If you do end up staying in a bunch of monasteries I think that even if they don't have outlets in each room it wouldn't be a problem to use one of their public outlets.

Also, if you know which monasteries you plan on staying in you could ask them via email first.

This is the best book I've found so far and it may give a bit more information on specific monasteries:

Monasteries of Italy

Where are you visiting?

Well, we're still in the planning stages of where we are going. We are definately going to Rome and Naples (and a side trip to Pompeii when we go to Naples). We would like to stay in a nice little town too.

My friend who is coming with me (my other friend will be meeting us there; she's in the US Army) only has 10 days of vacation--I figured that to be 8 days of being able to see things, and a day on each end for her to travel there and back. Because she has so little time, we were thinking about skipping Venice and Florence, but I really don't know yet.

We're just looking for cheap places to stay in all of those locations. Any recommendations for specific hostels and monasteries? My friend in the army is doing a lot of the bill paying, so we want to keep things as cheap as possible. Thanks!
