I am a nineteen year old gap year student looking for trekking companions to do a three or four week trek in Nepal. I do not mind trekking alone, but would love to have travel buddies for companionship and cost-splitting.
Experience: I am a moderate hiker with trekking and hiking experience in Northern India, the Alps, the United States and Morocco.
Dates: I will arrive in Kathmandu May 12 and hope to begin a trek no later than May 17 in order to catch the end of the trekking season (pre-monsoon). I would like to wrap up my trek by June 15th, though my dates are flexible.
Itinerary: While I have no specific course in mind, I am considering a combination of treks including Everest Base Camp, Annapurna circuit, Mustang and Kanchenjunga, and am open to suggestions. I am also open to the idea of a side trip to Tibet, if there is any interest there.
Costs: The trek will be on a budget, mostly "tea-house" trekking. In addition to lodging and housing, there is the potential added cost of a guide. I would like to carry my equipment, but am open to the idea of hiring a porter. I am looking at guides through the website listed below, which is a nonprofit organization that connects trekkers directly with recommended guides, cutting out the cost of a middle-man. By low budget, I mean that I am shooting to spend no more than $500 for four weeks. According to a travel column in 2004 (see second link below), budget trekking in Nepal costed $200 for three weeks without a guide, and around $350 with a guide.
