Italy Question I Probably Already Know Answer To

One of my best friends in the military is flying me and another friend out to visit her in Italy next summer. Do we need visas for our passports?

My friend and I are flying out to Italy next summer to visit my friend in the U.S. Army. While I've traveled before, this will be my first trip to Europe (I've been to Thailand, China and Vietnam--the latter two required entry visas), and my first trip without a college group.

My question is do my other friend and I need visas just to enter and visit Italy for a week or two? I'm guessing not, but I thought I'd ask just to be certain.

Also: any travel tips for three 22 year old girls who will be traveling with only each other in Italy (places/people to avoid, etc.)?

Thanks to whoever replies!

I'm pretty sure you don't need visa's. I've been to Italy twice with a passport.

While I was in Italy last summer, I talked to a lot of fellow American travelers about how they were treated and the impression I got was that girls have it harder than guys. This is for two reasons.

1. Italian men are in general pretty politically incorrect as far as Americans are concerned. Some of them can be extremely forward and I think you've got to be prepared for that. That doesn't mean holding pepper spray in your hand at all times though 😊, but just be aware of how you present yourselves.

2. A few American girls have created a bad reputation for being dumb and easy. I witnessed this once or twice on my trip and I talked with Italians who confirmed this stereotype.

I think that if you are respectful, conscientious, and alert, you will have an exceptional time. Italy is one of the most easily enjoyed European countries and I'm sure you guys will love it.

The only things I can think of to avoid are gypsies on the side of the street, bus #64 in Rome, and taxi drivers that don't go by the meter. All three of these are infamous!

If you are interested in some things TO see, I've started collecting some of my favorite things to do in Italy:
