Things to do and places to eat in Emiglia Romagna.
As part of our 6 months in Europe next summer, we are staying in a house in Monterenzio, 25 km south of Bologna from June 21 - 7/5. The first week will be spent with my cousin and his 3 kids - ages 21, 18, 15. The previous week with them will have been in Cinque Terre. We will of course take the train to Florence once or twice, but any other suggestions? They have never been to Europe and are excited just to explore. We will have a car, but will also be 1 km from bus stop.
The second week will be with adults in their 30s who, like us, are total foodies (the reason I chose this region).
I want to show both groups a good time - any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Reply to this What a good base for seeing a great part of Italy! Briefly:
- Rimini (or Cesenatico), coastal resorts on the Adriatic and about an hour's drive. In Cesenatico, there are two great museums - a cycling museum to the legend Marco Pantani and a ship/boats museum. Both are very cheap (I think a 1 euro each or thereabouts)
- Bologna, a great ancient city. Good shops and very good eating here.
- Monza - you should check to see if visits are possible to the race track
- Maranello, home of Ferrari (probably a 2-3 hour drive). we've done this and it is an enjoyable experience. You can also see them testing Ferrari sports cars on their test track
