this is one of europe's premium fast train journeys. the THALYS takes you faster than you could drive it.
you will experience movement and maybe even "swinging" due to the speed but bumping i shouldnt think so. if you get motion sickness here, you'll get it everywhere. Reply to this

AS Irene and Bruno say, this is a superb train and mostly runs on a dedicated high speed line between the two cities. During our last trip on Thalys, we did the 'pound coin test' where you take an UK £1 coin and place it on its edge to see how long it stays upright! With the exception of a couple of sections over old bumpy trackwork (Antwerp springs to mind), the coin stayed upright for the most part.

I would book your seat well in advance to get a forward-facing seat (can't remember if the booking chart tells you which direction the train is travelling) -- or -- get one forward and one backward at a table to cover all eventualities.

Enjoy. Reply to this

Thank you all for your feedback, I really appreciate it. Hopefully I will withstand this trip, I'm paranoid about it for some particular reason....probably because it's the unknown for me. If the train is a straight shot without a ton of curves and rocking, I should be okay. Reply to this

It's mostly like this:
Eurostar - I know this is a Eurostar but it uses the same tracks as Thalys.

Straight as a dye! It does climb grades slightly more than conventional trains but I'm sure it won't trouble you.

Not sure what the fuss is about, I've taken Thalys train on the exact route you mention, and experienced no more swaying and bumping than on a normal London commuter train.
