Looking for destination recommendations for an interesting, laid-back Spanish vacation with 7 year olds.
I am trying to get some ideas for vacationing with my family (me, dh, and 7 year old twins) in Spain next spring. It's very early in the planning stage, so anything goes (in fact, I'm not even set on Spain - I'm considering Greece, France, and Portugal as well). We would rent a flat, which will be easy once I decide where. Ideally, we would go to a city that would have interesting architecture, good food, and is easy to get around. It would also be nice to be able to go to the beach as a day trip (or maybe we would split the vacation into two parts). To describe our travel style: laid back, Disney-anything would be a nightmare, but we have no intention of taking the kids on forced marches up mountains either. We'd prefer to stay in one place, or at most two. Any ideas, especially recommendations from people who have done something like this, will be greatly appreciated.
Reply to this Since last year when I first visited spain, I felt in love with this country and its romantic way of being. Most of all, I love Salamanca, well-placed for day trips and excursions, with many popular places, just waiting to be explored. A number of towns and villages are particularly close to Salamanca and contain many historical buildings, local shops, popular restaurants, interesting museums, top tourist attractions and scenic views. It really doesn't matter where in salamanca or even around it you will travel, you will always find out that there are a lot of things to see. Complete your search also with
Excursion around Salamanca. Ah, another thing. You said you will travel with your kids. Should I mention that the city is a haven for entertainment??
Reply to this Hi there
A nice idea for next spring would be Tenerife where the weather is very nice and is an ideal place for children as there many nice resorts where you can relax while children playing around. Greece is a nice option as most of its island's towns have a strong history background so you will find it very interesting. I went to Corfu and Crete last year and it was great both islands, many to see, beautiful beaches and food and also so interesting sight-seeing. I recommend
I had great advice for all inclusive package holidays to the Meditteranean. They give the option for cheap holidays as well but nice ones.
I hope that helps
Kind Regards
Tiffany Reply to this An island is always an interesting destination. I recommend you Tenerife (already mentioned), better in any small village on the north side than on the most crowded-touristy south. Not in Santa Cruz. TF is not the best cultural place on earth but that mix of desert, tropic and volcanic landscape makes it quite interesting.
Another option is Mallorca. Even though is a very well known summer destination you'll find plenty of places not yet spoilt by tourism. In spring the island gets really beautiful. Try to avoid Palma or main tourist resorts around it. Better look for villages like Soller or the like. Rent a car and explore the island. This would be my first option and spring is the best time to go there.
In continental Spain: big cities are not always children friendly no matter where you go. Maybe Barcelona would be the best option or somewhere an the 'Costa Brava' north of BCN and closer to the french border (Figueres, Roses, Cadaques, Girona,...).
San Sebastian, Santiago can be nice small cities in the northern coast. Granada, Seville in southern Spain could be too big. Nerja (Málaga) is a nice small village...I dont know.
Greece is lovely as well. I enjoyed it a lot. 😊
Reply to this heya, yes, I can advice you chiclana de la frontera- sancti petri... I was there this summer and its great, very close is jerez airport or then sevilla airport around an hour and half from there
Reply to this I love Fourteventoura (spelt wrong!!). It is amazing
Reply to this We stayed at the Apartments Murillo in the Barrio Santa Cruz (neighborhood) of Sevilla (Seville), in the region of Andalusia in Southern Spain. In addition to the tapas bars (great for kids) in this pedestrian only neighborhood, you can walk to all of the top sites. We went with 3 children all under 10 years old. We spent one afternoon (late entry at a reduced price, beat the heat of summer) at the nearby waterpark/themepark, a short taxi ride from the place we stayed. The rest of the week we spent shopping, walking the ramp up the Cathedral tower. A small park is a stones throw from the apartment, and a larger park just across the street. The kids took a picture next to the casket in the cathedral that may hold the bones of Columbus, who set sail from here. The tower of gold that guarded the river can be seen on a river cruise, a few blocks away. The bullring is great for touring.
Reply to this Malaga could be a nice place to go. If you choose the east coast as Nerja, Torrox, Sayalonga for example, you can easily get relaxed but still close to the beach, parks, cafes, etc I wouldn´t recommend you places as Torremolinos or Fuengirola because it is too touristic 😊 I can recommend you a
holiday apartment in Spain would be a good option. I am used to travel with my kids (2-5 years old) and the experience tells me it is much easier to stay in a nice apartment an feel like at home when travelling with children.

Reply to this Talitha: It's spelt Fuerteventura!
As Leles pointed out, the area around Malaga (
Costa del Sol) is very built up, although there are a couple of quieter resorts such as Nerja, which is very picturesque, and La Cala de Mijas, situated between Marbella and Fuengirola. The latter is a small seaside town, with a pleasant sandy beach ideal for children. Inland is the pretty whitewashed village of Mijas Pueblo, with some superb views along the coast, although it is a bit 'touristy'.
