We are a retired couple from Arizona looking for information about spending the summer in Ireland, a place that we have never been. We would want an upscale uncongested location where we could rent a one bedroom one bath condo or home for about $3000 per month. Near a would beach would be nice. I don't want to rent a car so close to transportation to take us to other areas would be important. Would appreciate recommendations as to cities we should consider.

Reply to this I would suggest somewhere down the east coast such as Co. Wicklow or Co. Wexford. Arklow or Gorey come to mind, both having railway stations, as does Rosslaire. Wexford is known in Ireland as the sunny south-east for obvious reasons. They have other benefits also - they have a direct rail service to Dublin (at least 3 trains a day each way), and Rosslaire is the port for Fishguard/Pembroke in Wales, so you could take a day trip there! Both counties are holiday destinations with Irish people and certain sections of the stunning coastline do have holiday homes. However, these are not so busy or popular in the summer since most Irish people prefer to jet away to guaranteed sunshine in Europe!

Reply to this A summer in Donegal County might be nice, either in a Seaview B&B, in Dunkineely about 20 miles outside of Donegal town proper, or, the Croagh Holiday Centre, about 10 miles further north of Dunkineely towards Glenties and Ardragh, which has individual caravans (campers) set up with sun decks and a bit of privacy. Cousins own both facilities, so let us know if you need any help making the bookings.
Reply to this I think the biggest problem for you would be access to cities and towns from the beach areas , i think if you want southwest ballybunion holiday homes would be a good option not the first i would recommend for obvious reasons but , if you want access it is going to have to be a town like this with access to kerry / cork with bus and rail connections .

Reply to this The owner of the Seaview B&B runs a taxi service and will pick you up in Donegal town. Better give us more explicit details on car rentals. Will you or won't you be renting a car for sure? You almost need a car if you want to get around Ireland efficiently. Otherwise, you will be stuck in the cities.

I think Dalkey or Howth would be the types of areas in Dublin u would like. They are beside the sea and upscale. They also have subway(the Dublin subway is called the DART) stops at them. Try doing a google search for short term letting in Dalkey and Howth.
