So little time so what should I see? Also which area is best to stay in and how widely understood is English?
Any tips gratefully received.
You can have an overview from the city and the suburbs in 3 days. You should stay in the center, you can find an apartment for rent for 40 euros/night (if you want I can give you an address, this is a flat of a french-speaking guide). You can use the English almost everywhere, generally at public places people speak in it. You should check the castle of Buda, the Gellert-Hill, the big Market, the parliament, the nice museums, the Margaret-island, and the beautiful Danube. You can go to the traditional bathes, like Gellert or Szechenyi, this is amazing. The public transport is very good, you can buy a 3 days ticket, and you can use everything (bus, tram, metro).
Reply to this We had a one-week trip in Budapest. We stayed in a hotel near to the Western Railway Station, caalled Easy Hotel, here: http://uk.video.yahoo.com/watch/3049615/8703000
and i liked it because it was almost in the city centre. We found this hotel about a funny advert😊 My husband i only had to pay 15 /night for two of us! i think it was very cheap. We also liked the food, and it was cheap too, and the people were nice! So i think a trip in Budapest is affordable.
You must see Heroes Square, Lánchíd, Andrássy út, Halászbástya, Parlament, these are "basic" sights you must visit😊
