Barcelona and Verona

Looking for input on these two cities for November
16 years ago, July 16th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #16477
I'm a 22 year old female travelling alone to Europe in November. I plan to spend several days in Verona and am curious what you found to be the highlights of the city. Have my sights set on Barcelona as well and am hoping for seven days there. I'm on a budget but accomodations are already taken care of. What should I make sure to see and do while I'm in each city? How about transportation within and between cities? Reply to this

The main tourist sites in Verona include:

Roman Arena - one of the best preserved in Europe.
Piazza delle Erbe - a beautiful square, one of the finest in Italy.
Castelvecchio - A 14th century castle which now houses a good art museum.
Juliet's House - Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was set in Verona and, although Juliet was only a fictional character, this 13th century former inn (complete with balcony) is supposedly 'Juliet's House'. A rather tacky tourist attraction covered in graffitti.

Not too sure about Verona, but some recommended sites in Barcelona:

Sagrada Familia
La Pedrera - Casa Mila by Antonio Gaudi
Barcelona FC Museum
Picasso Museum

Just watch out for pickpocketers along la Rambles

Hi, fyreflii. This is nieves22 from Barcelona.

Verona, I've been once. It's small and beautiful. I enjoyed there, just walking around.

Places to see in Barcelona is too many...

Sagrada Familia
Hospital Sant Pau
La Pedrera
Rambla Catalunya(shopping area)
Parque Guell

and beach, but if you come in November, the water will be too cold to swim. 😊

and... if you have enough time, enjoy the soccer game with FC Barcelona.

Buen viaje!

Hey there-
Verona is very small and you can see everything in a full day. You are only about 30 minutes from the Lago di Garda which is beautiful so stop by there. It can be expensive but you can stay outside of the lake.
Have a great trip! Reply to this

I didn't get to go to Verona when I was in Italy, but I've heard that it is very nice. As for Barcelona, I have been there, but I personally didn't care for it that much. There is a lot to see there and do but nothing out of this world, I can't leave if I don't see type things, and the things that are there to see I liked and enjoyed but I'm not in love with. This is just my opinion, you will probably love it and I'm not saying don't go...go if you want to, but I'm just telling you that I'm not crazy about Barcelona; there are other cities that I visited that I loved better. The things in Barcelona that I'd recommend for you to see are:

Sagrada Familia (see the outside don't pay to go walk around the inside because it's not really worth the money)
Park Guell
Las Ramblas
The National Musuem of Catalan Art and Mont Juif
the Old Port
the Barri Gotic
The Musuem of the History of Barcelona (You have to see this because you can see the actual remains of the old Roman city...cool huh)
and just walk around the Eixample neighborhood.

As for that, to me that's a full visit to Barcelona; you can leave happy if you've seen all of these. Of course it's all up to you, and this is just my opinion, but I hope that this helps. Enjoy yourself and have a great trip and good luck!

Hi fyreflii,

Have you tried the airline Clickair (www.clickair.com)? They do cheap flights in November from Verona to Barcelona and looks like that might be a good option.

I went to Barcelona in March for 3 days and loved it. I'm actually thinking about going back next year with my boyfriend. I really thought it was a great city, very easy to navigate around and lots to see. We stayed in a hostel called the Mediterranean Youth Hostel. It was very clean and the staff was EXTREMELY helpful and nice. The entrance to the Metro was right around the corner. As far as what to see, I absolutely loved Park Guell!! It's a really cool park but it's pretty big so I would set aside a few hours to see it. Definitely check out the Casa Batllo, La Pedrera, Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter and Sagrada Familia, too. For an awesome view of the city, take the cable car to Montjuic. On the hill you'll find the Olympic Stadium, Botanical Gardens, the Castell de Montjuic (which is a fort at the top of Montjuic). If you have any other questions let me know! Have fun! Reply to this

Verona and Barcelona are both great. In Verona you should see the attractions mentioned above but just enjoy the atmosphere of the city. Try to also get out of the city and visit the countryside. Some of the famous Palladian villas are amazing. Visit the lake and try to visit some of the nearby little towns. Reply to this
