Beaches in France

I don't think you're going to be able to escape the touristy areas of France's beaches that much, especially along the Riviera because it's touristy all along there...I guess you could go to Antibes, it's well known but not as popular as like Cannes or Nice, but you should experience Nice and Cannes. I also remember my fellow students when I was studying abroad in Aix en Provence talking about going to some of the beaches in Marseille...Marseille does have some beaches on some islands I think...I don't know much about it but your typical tourist is not going to know about those beaches. France sadly is not into hostels, but there is a hostel in Nice that isn't too bad (St Exuperey) it's a bit out of the way in Nice but the price is right, they have a pretty good on site restaurant with cheap good food and it's a decent place to stay. And in any beach destination to save money on anything go eat at your restaurants do your shopping, stay at your hotel/etc far away from the beach and then just go to the beach hang out there, and do all your money spending away from the beach.
