Travelling to Paris alone and want to know the safe areas to stay
16 years ago, June 10th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #15054
Hi there!

I am travelling to Paris for 3 nights 4 days alone in mid-September. I have never been to Paris and am not sure what areas are considered safe for women travelling alone.
Also, as I plan to get around on foot or using public transport, I would like the accommodation to be in a convenient location.

Can anyone help me with ideas of areas to stay in Paris? Reply to this

Most of Paris is pretty safe and when I am out and about on my own, I don't feel at risk or intimidated at all. I walk everywhere as, for a capital city, it is pretty compact- just use the Seine as a point of reference.
In terms of location, it depends where you want to be close to. Personally, I would suggest being near to the Latin Quarter and St.Germain des Pres (which is in turn close to Odeon) as this is lovely of an evening- very arty and bohemian, lots of nice galleries, bars and cafes and a great atmosphere of an evening. Plus, it is close to St Michel metro, also handy for Notre Dame and you can walk to the Marais by crossing the river. Not sure of your budget- I have stayed in Hotel Suez before which is in this area and it was reasonable enough and well placed.

If you go on Expedia, you could probably get cheaper if you put in these areas of the city. Good luck! Reply to this

my advice is just to stay away from the train stations are you won't go wrong. The latin Quarter and St germain have the most character but the accommodation can be varied in both price and quality. I stayed in the 1st the last time I was in Paris which is around le Louvre and loved that fact that you could walk to anyway. I booked an apartment through these guys <snip> and got a great deal. Otherwise there are plenty of hotels to choose from
