I'm planning to have a 2-week trip around south eastern europe in early June, probably including romania, croatia, possibly montenegro, serbia n bosnia. A pretty packed schedule would be expected and would like to get all the highlights of the region, yet the transportation would be quite an issue.
Are they any suggested route or places that would be a MUST-GO?
(I wanna make full of the time before I get back into the hell of the life...pls help) =)
THXX
Reply to this I know its a little off your planned trail, but this is the route im doing in about a month... im sure i might have a couple extra stops involved Neum, Bosnia being the main other
Prague
Vienna
Maribor, Slovenia
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Zagreb, Croatia
Banja Luka, Bosnia
Mostar, Bosnia
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Split, Ferry to Pescara, Italy
Pescara, Italy, Flight back to Barcelona
Reply to this hey thx! But..hell..i can't do the suggested itinerary because of the adhoc schedule bumped in!
I now have a total of 10 days and am planning to go to SPAIN instead. Entry via Bracelona and leave in Madrid, any suggested itinerary for this. Guess with such a town i would be able to really experience the culture and enjoy the country there!
THANKS!!!
Reply to this 2-4 in barcelona, a day in Valencia, if possible fly from there to malaga for a day and up to granada and end in madrid for 2-3 days.... Granada is great, but kind of difficult to get too... www.skyskanner.net is a good site for a cheap flight... if flight doesnt work out i would do barcelona, valencia, maybe a coastal city then to madrid maybe stopping in toledo on the way to madrid if time permits... and if your here from roughly the 19-24 of june there is a huge festival in Alicante, spain las hogueras
Reply to this hey thanks much for the advice, here's my itinerary,
15/6 madrid
16/6 toledo
17/7 back to madrid going to seville
18/7 malaga
19/7 granada
20-22/7 barcelona
I know it's kinda rush...any comment on this?
Reply to this I would consider removing malaga and taking another day in madrid.... I havent been to Seville but i hear good things... I think i would be more of
15-16 madrid
17 Seville
18 Toledo
19 Granada
20 Alicante for a festival (i wont be there but it will be huge, use www.couchsurfers.com to stay somewhere or i can probably hook you up with a couple girls from the states i know)
OR Valencia on the 20th
21-22 Barcelona
I think that would be an easier path, less travel days. Madrid-Seville 2.5 hours, Madrid-toledo 1 hour, Madrid - Alicante 3.75 hours, Alicante - Valencia 1.5 hours, and Valencia to Barcelona 2.5 - 3.5 hours pending on train.
You will still be rushing, I would consider taking out Toledo for another day in any of the other places.
Reply to this hey is there a bus from madrid to alicante? Btw, do i need to book the bus in advance? I just found out that seems like bus is much cheaper than train yet it takes similar time as train does.
Yea i guess i'll probably join the festival there on the 20th but then will fly directly to barcelona that night =)
Reply to this sure as long as there are trains that do those routes... Train from Granada to Alicante does not exist so you will need to bus (goes through madrid... way out of the way)... I would buy the ticket in advance online for alicante and if its possible i would shoot for the 24th bc thats the final part of the celebration when they stick fireworks in the statues and blow them up !!!
Reply to this i would like to be there til 24th though, btw...how's the security there in spain, i heard pickpockets are everywhere and people even get attacked...sound really scary
Reply to this For the most part big cities you wont be attacked unless your in a shady alley or somewhere you shouldnt be... pickpockets are everywhere in madrid and bigger cities... i was in madrid two weeks ago and i took a chicks hand out of my pocket !!! BEWARE OF METROS EVERYWHERE THOUGH NOT JUST IN MADRID... just always watch your stuff or dont bring it with you... ive been in alicante for 5 months and ive had friends robbed a few times but if you have nothing on you... they dont really get anything other then a few euros or something ... you will be fine, train stations have lockers or hostels/hotels will always hold your stuff, so you can go exploring without being picked out as a tourist with $$$

Consider Hvar and/or Korcula for the Croatia part of your trip, expecially since you will be there in the summer.
Reply to this June 28 Barcelona to Prague
June 29 Prague
June 30 Prague
July 1 Vienna, Austria
July 2 Vienna
July 3 Leave Vienna for Maribor, Slovenia (up in the air... doing whatever, probbaly in Ljubljana so i can have more time in the Bled area)
July 4 Ljubljana, Slovenia
July 5 Lake Bled
Vintgar gorge
Skojcan caves
July 6 - Zagreb ... ? I need to be in Split on July 11th at 5 pm for a ferry to Italy... Any recommendations ? I was up in the air about going through Bosnia to Dubrovnik and back up to Split or taking the coast to Split ?? Both of those places look great
Reply to this Hi, Ryan.
Hmmm...After Slovenia, I might skip zagreb. Not sure of your timetable. But maybe you can go PAST Split, and head toward Dubrovnik. Stop in Korcula or Hvar on your way there, and spend a night or two. Then on to Dubrovnik. Then Mostar. After Mostar THEN you go back to Split. You will love Croatia. You will be awestruck in Bosnia.
I have had good luck with the ladies waiting by the trains when I arrive. I've read books where they urge caution when doing this, but I've always had good luck.
In Split in the Spring of 2006, I had this cool little cottage in the neighborhood with the locals away from the tourists. It was $25 USD per night.
Reply to this lol When I say had good luck with the ladies waiting by the train, that didn't sound quite like I meant it to sound lol.
I meant the little old ladies waiting by the train offering rooms.
