I am looking for train fares in Europe, but I keep finding fares fir 1st class... Are there cheaper classes?

I Yahoo'd Euro Rail and train travel, but I came out with passes that seem very expensive: almost $1000 US for 18 days of travel. It mentioned 1st class travelling. Are there better websites out there where I can find more affordable rates? Thanks very much. Reply to this

I seem to remember that when you are older than about 26 you can only get a 1st class Eurail pass, 2nd class is not an option for the old people. BTW, that includes me. You might find purchasing individual tickets in 2nd class when you are there cheaper than a Eurail Pass. Train fares on the express lines are expensive so a pass is probably cost effective, on a slower commuter train, 2nd class might be cheaper. Reply to this

In many European countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, Grece, ecc.) the regular fares are actually cheaper than any 2nd class pass... so it really depends on where you're going, but if I were you I'd forget the pass and get the tickets...

If you are going to buy a pass, i HIGHLY recommend a first class ticket. It doesn't cost that much more (not like airlines) and is totally worth it. Further, if you are going to travel many countries, check out this pass: Eurail Global Pass
