Have a few questions re: an Amsterdam - Paris trip by train. Also, I have some questions re: ease of travel in both cities.
Hello there, long time lurker, first time new topic poster. I have a few questions re: planning a trip from Amsterdam to Paris in late September 2007. My fiance and I are spending our honeymoon in Poland, then flying to Amsterdam (doing a bit sightseeing), then I wanted to take the train to Paris and do a bit of sightseeing there, then we fly home from Paris.
I've located a few websites that show me routes between the two cities, and for some reason I thought it was farther than the 4 hours they say. Anywho, maybe its just me, but I'm finding a lot of prices that seem really high for a short one way trip for 2 people. The cheapest tickets I've been able to find are $191 US ($222 CDN; $148 Euro) per person. Now, I wasnt planning on buying a Eurorail pass because this is the only train ride we're planning on taking during our travels. Does this price seem justifiable?
All Europe Rail is where I found that price.
Also, how easy are both cities to get around without a car? How easy is it to get from the train stations to other parts of the city? What sort of prices should we expect in each destination? We've never been to either so we're hoping that it wont be too hard to get from point A to point B and anywhere in between.
Thanks for all the help!!!
Cheers.
Reply to this those prices for a train trip between paris and amsterdam seem about right. Also, they might be booked up so the earliest tickets you can get might be for one or two days later.
The train stations that you depart from (paris and amsterdam) are connected to the rest of their metro/bus system so you should have no problems getting around.
Reply to this Amsterdam is quite easy to get around (never been to paris) , just buy a stripenkaart (sp?) pass at the train station when you arrive @ the central station or you can purchase a pass on the actual trams themselves. There will be a "ticket counter" positioned in the center of each tram that can sell you a stripenkaart pass and you will be good to go. It may be more romantic to just rent a bike seeing as you are going in September, amsterdam is a very compact city, you could easily see most sights with a short bike ride... good luck and have fun!
Reply to this The Thalys high speed train runs between Amsterdam and Paris. Tickets can be purchased directly from the operator at
Thalys.com, although you can only make reservations 2 or 3 months in advance. Booking through Thalys appears to be cheaper than through an agency such as raileurope.com or alleuroperail.com. For general information about European rail travel
seat61.com is one of the best websites around.
Amsterdam Travel Guide Reply to this No, you dont need to buy eurorail pass just to travel between Paris and Amsterdam. Just buy one-way thalys train ticket, it's much cheaper.
Avoid car when you travel in Europe, both Paris and Amsterdam can be explored by walk and MRT/subway. Renting car is expensive and not considering parking also hard and expensive.
I found a good website for taking
