Hi Everyone!
Myself and my husband are going to drive through France/Switzerland to Italy where were are going to camp for two weeks. We have booked one campsite near Rome for the first week but nothing for the second as yet. We want to see as much as we can whilst we are there and would be very grateful of any ideas of things to see an do. I really want to see the real Italy and visit lots of small villages
Any ideas are welcome!
Thanks
Jo
Reply to this Hello Joanna and welcome to Travelblog!
I've driven through a bit of that area, and I have two suggestions. First in Switzerland, there are excellent camping areas around Lauterbrunnen (especially) and Zermatt. Driving through the Alps is an absolute pleasure - despite the winding roads - the scenery is superb.
Secondly, the Tuscan hills are perfect for having your own vehicle. Visit some of the smaller towns, such as my favourite, San Gimignano. Best here to get off the main roads and onto the smaller country roads - really wonderful experience.
Reply to this Hello Joanna,
Just back from a road trip around europe that took me in between others through Italy from France. if you havent visited Venise yet then definitely add it to your wish list, an affordable way to do it although it might not involved camping,is to stay in one of the nearby city (on the other side of the main bridge that brings you to Venise). I stayed in Mestre, hotel antica villa graziella and it was just perfect, affordable and with the bus you are in Venise city center in 15mn!
Not sure when your trip is taking place, but outside of August which is not a good time to head for Venise, any other time would do!
Reply to this Camping in Italy! Now there's an idea. The whole idea of camping never really appealed to me but somehow doing it in another country sounds quite romantic. Please be sure to post a follow-up blog. I'm curious to hear how it goes! Safe travels 😊
Reply to this Thanks everyone for your replies, we are going to plot our route next month....I can't wait 😊
Miss Maggie - I have never camped abroad either but we went to visit my father in law when he was camping in Spain and the campsite was lovely and right on the beach. I will keep you all updated!
Take care x
