Beginning some research on a summer trip to Denmark.

Preliminary planning is underway for travels to Denmark next summer in August or early September.
What are your recommendations?
What were your impressions of Denmark?

We are considering 3 or 4 nights in Copenhagen, 1 night Roskilde, 1 night in Odense and 2 nights in Aeroskobing.

We'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Reply to this

Hello, I didn't see your post until now. It is a long time since I was in Denmark, but I have many fond memories. It is a small country, easy to travel in by train or car, or even bike if you like that. August or September will be good for traveling, but the earlier the better, to be sure of decent weather, but bring a rain coat just in case. I don't know what you will do in Aeroskobing, have never heard of the place, but the rest seems OK.

In Copenhagen you should visit Tivoli, preferably during an evening with nice weather. Glypoteket if you like sculpture, Stroget for strolling. Rent a bike and check out the neighbourhoods. The royal castle is also worth a visit. You can visit the Carlsberg brewery for a tour.

Also go to Helsingor, it is less than hour by train, and a pretty little town just by Oresund, in 20 min you can be in Sweden by ferry. In Helsingor the big draw is Kronborgs slott, where Hamlet supposedly was going crazy, though historically that is not true. Still worth the visit for the castle feel and the view over to Sweden. And the little town is pretty. Louisiana is a very renowned art museum between Copehagen and Helsingor.

One place that many people go to is Skagen where the North Sea meets Skagerack, it was a favourite place for painters, and the beach supposedly has a wonderful light. But I have never been myself.

For food try the smorrebrod and the winerbrod, the original Danish pastry. You may put on a few kilos if you are not careful. I am sure you will like it wherever you go, it is truly picturesque with little cottages and fields and pretty villages.

Have a nice trip!

Inga,

Thank you for all of the tips. I may need to add Skagen to our list of stops.
