Which is the best destination for a city break?
17 years ago, November 10th 2006 No: 1 Msg: #8461
I would like to go to Poland for a weekend city break early next year. At the moment I am undecided as to whether I prefer Warsaw, Krakow or Wroclaw. Has anyone been to any of these places and, if so, I would be grateful if they have any information about tourist attractions, accommodation etc.

Ive only been to krakow but i really liked it, loads of great cheap restaurants and underground bars, huge amount of museums, day trips to auschwitz or the saltmines are both worth doing. i found cheap accomodation on hostel world which is a good site but only if your looking for budget accomodation Reply to this

Ok. First thing. If you go to Poland in the early part of the New Year then be prepared as it will be very cold !

Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw offer different things to different people. Wroclaw is perhaps the least popular out of the three but only because Westerners don't know much about the city. Wroclaw is a university town so hand in hand with that it has a lot of bars and clubs. It also has a beautiful Old Town which has been very recently restored to it's original beauty.

Warsaw is of course the capital city and it's night life is probably second to none in Poland. You'll be spoilt for choice with restaurants, clubs, bars and hotels. Large parts of the city are quite ugly but there are also areas of outstanding beauty such as Stare Miasto, Wilanow and Lazienki Park.

Krakow is perhaps the most well known to tourists and rightly so. As Dennis mentioned it offers so many attractions from museums to bars and clubs. The Old Town is stunning and gives Prague a run for it's money. It is also very easy to navigate this part of the city by foot so as long as you're in the centre then you don't have to worry about taxis too much.
