is it feasible to make it to venice within our 8 days, if so is rail or rental car the best way to go?
Reply to this 8 days is definetly possible - by rail or car, I know people that have gone from London to northern Italy in less than 48 hours by car. Driving through Switzerland has been described as one of the highlights from the friend that did this.
