My husband has won tickets for the Monaco Grand Prix..however, when I look for hotels online they all seem so expensive. I don't mind paying extra if it's worth it. Can anyone recommend which hotels are the best to stay at - and whether the extra price is actually worth it...? Thanks
Reply to this sleep in nice!
there is a bus running from nice to monaco for 1 euro each way.
Reply to this Hi Katie
In Monaco there are some excellent hotels but you are right they are expensive over the Grand Prix.
Our guests continually rate the Monte Carlo Bay Resort & Hotel very highly. Le Meridien Beach Plaza (next to the Monte Carlo Bay) are offering a 2 night stay as a special but this hotel is host to Amber Lounge, an F1 party running until the early hours - so can be noisy.
The Hotel de Paris, Hermitage & Metropole are all excellent with varying good points/downsides depending on what you're looking for and the style of hotel you like (e.g. Metropole, fantastic service, Michelin star restaurant, etc. but standard rooms are small).
The Novotel is not much (if any cheaper) than the Monte Carlo Bay and is not a patch on it.
The Fairmont is a nice hotel, our American guests like it, large casino inside, great sea views, nice rooms, decent service.
Port Palace also rates very highly amongst our guests and is right on the port.
If you don't want to blow too much of your budget on a hotel in Monaco however then Synnot has made a good suggestion. We have lots of guests who stay in Nice and travel through to Monaco, great atmosphere at night, great restaurants (lots of bad ones though which i've found out the hard way) and some lovely hotels. Le Meridien in Nice is on the sea front and they have recently refurbished the rooms. Palai de la Mediterrancee also on the sea front is a lovely hotel also. There are lots of little hotels also, we have a couple of rooms left in our Villa Victoria hotel for the GP period (villa-victoria.com) if that's of interest.
In terms of transport to Monaco for the race you can get the bus easily or my recommendation would be train - quick, regular and cheap. You could even transfer through with some of our guests (foc if you stay at the the Villa Victoria).
Anyway, hope that helps. If there's anything else don't hesitate to ask.
Reply to this Thanks both for your advice...I've booked into Le Meridien Nice - it's a lot less expensive than Monaco hopefully we'll get a refurbished room!
Reply to this Le Meridien Nice do a 2 night option just in case that fits what you need to do Katie and the refurbished sea view rooms are lovely. Good choice. Have a great trip. Ed.
