We are going to Nice for a week and then to Vernazza for an additional week and then back to Nice to fly home. I\\\'m looking into rail options from Nice to Vernazza and it looks like I can take a route Nice-Ventimiglia-Genova-Vernazza, is that the best route? Do I need to purchase tickets ahead of time?
Thanks for your help.
Reply to this Yes, that does appear to be the way to do it. As for reservations, you will require a reservation on the train from Ventimiglia to Genova. If you have calculated this route on the
Deutsche Bahn website (and I suspect that you have), then you will see the train details for each of the trips. For that one route, it says "Subject to compulsory reservation". The other trains are regional routes, which do not accept reservations.
According to
www.tgv-europe.com, the ticket from Ventimiglia to Genova costs 16 Euros, and that includes the reservation fee. That website is for the French rail service - if you book through them, you can pick up your ticket from any rail station in France when you show the credit card used to make the purchase. Just make sure that if you book on that website, you select "Australia", "Canada", or "Great Britain" as your country. If you are from the US, do not select USA as you will be redirected to another site.
Have a great trip!
