Traveling to Frankfurt and would like recommendations on getting around as Americans.
I\'m traveling to Europe in April for a cruise and we\'ve decided to fly into Frankfurt before the cruise. We\'re going to be there for a couple of days and then headed to Paris.
We are from the U.S. and would like some assistance. Our concerns are getting around from the airport to our hotel and other places. we\'re going to be getting a Eurail pass to travel from Frankfurt to Paris then to Barcelona for the cruise.
Do we need to know some phrases to use a taxi? Any other helpful information would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Reply to this Hello Sean 😊
There are plenty of taxis. They are quite expensive in Germany though.
Public transport is very good, so it may be worth asking your hotel which subways, busses and trams go to the places you want to get to.
You likely wont need any German phrases for the taxis. Many people here in Germany speak some English at least. Also, unlike many places, the taxi drivers in Germany are honest, so you wont have any trouble with them.

Reply to this Dear Sean, there is a train station in Frankfurt airport, with trains to the main railway station (called S-bahn - note that there is one platform for the S-bahn and one for the intercity trains) and many intervening stations. You buy the ticket on the platform. if you have booked a hotel in the city center it will be the best connection, the hotel will have information on the best way to get there from the airport. From there are as Mell says a great network of buses/trams/S-bahn but if you have luggage you may want to take a taxi from the Hauptbahnhof. Germany is really great in this sense that you can get everywhere with the public transport system. And Frankfurt is not that a big city, I spent a day there some time ago and I did it all by walking. If you have the time make a day trip to Heidelberg (easily done by train) - it is a beautiful and very romantic town.
Have a nice trip
Reply to this Single ticket public transport from Frankfurt Airport to anywhere in Frankfurt is EUR 3,80.
The S-Bahn trains get you in 11 minutes from the airport (basement of Terminal 1) to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and in 15 minutes to the stop Hauptwache (in the mid of the old city). There are quite a number of hotels around the Hauptbahnhof and also some near Hauptwache. To other locations you can use trams or buses (are included in the EUR 3,80 ticket). Or take a taxi. Cheaper than to start with the taxi from the airport. You cannot beat in Frankfurt the S-Bahn in speed to the city center due the direct routing and the fact that it goes underground through the city center.
