Reply to this Hi
You just buy a new simcard for your phone in whatever country you are in. It means your phone will then work on that network. You will pay their price for texts and calls. Many providers have deals for international calls and texts.
So, for example, when we are in the UK I use my Vodafone simcard. Then when I come to Vietnam I change my simcard for a Mobifone (a VN network) one.
Sometimes you have to get your phone unlocked for this to work - you could phone your Canadian service provider and ask them if they will do this for you. If not, you can get it done in many tourist areas.
Hope this helps

Reply to this I am assuming that your Canadian cell phone is like US cellphones, which don't have chips. You can check by removing the battery of your phone. If you have a chip (it is small, plastic with your service provider name on it), it will be located underneath. If that is the case, you will not be able to use your phone is Europe. Most likely, you can buy an inexpensive phone there and donate it to a charity at the end of your trip or save it for your next international adventure. Have a great trip.
Reply to this thanks guys!
most canadian phones dont have a sim card, but the company that im getting my new phone through does but unfortunately all the phones are locked
i think i may just get a cheap phone, and use the iphone just for wifi if im unable to get it unlocked
