Looking for travel buddy - South America

Planning on traveling throughout South America in February 2010. Have never been and if anyone would like to go with or meet up, I'd be more then happy to have a travel buddy.

I was originally planning on spending a month at a beach town in Peru or Ecuador to surf. After reading people's stories here, I decided I might as well make the most of my time and see as much as possible. So I plan on traveling to South America in February 2010. I still have to figure out where I'll start and what I want to see, but if anyone else had a similar travel plan and would like to buddy up, I'd be more then happy to share the experience. I don't have a set date to return, probably when the money runs out..

Anyone that wants to join let me know! Reply to this

Hi Chris,
I'm planning to travel to South America in February as well. Just trying to figure out the exact plan of action now, but I think will have to work a little bit in the mean time, so that I can stay there for at least a few months.
Where are you heading first? Do you know where exactly in SA do you want to go to?
As I am going on my own it would be interesting to meet a travel buddy somewhere on the way...

Hi Magda,

I'm still up in the air about SA. After doing some more research on this message board, I'm leaning toward traveling Central America now. It should be cheaper for me and seems it will be an easier trip in terms of getting around/seeing more in the time that I plan to be gone (2 months). I'm planning on trying to do some volunteer work along the way in exchange for possible room/board to lighten the costs. Nothing is really set in stone yet, so far I've come up with a budget and have researched some different volunteer options.

Where are you headed first in SA? I'd be interested to hear your itinerary. I would love to see South America but it seems it would be too much if I were to travel the continent alone.

Hi again Chris,

I think I will start my trip from Brasil, then go down to Argentina, stay there for at least a month and after that I will work my way up the continent through Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. I don't have my ticket yet, because I am still considering going to Mexico first, as I have a few contacts there. But it will be all decided next week.

If you do decide to go to SA, I would be delighted to meet up, share the experience or even travel together...
Let me know your plans. Reply to this

Hi,

I'm planning on backpacking from Belize to Panama and then coasting to Colombia. Leaving February 7th and returning July 19th. As for South America, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia are quite inexpensive. Argentina and Brazil cost a bit more I believe. I have been in Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina and traveled alone; it is a bit more expensive to take taxis (when needed) by yourself and to go on small tours. Hostels in Peru were around $10/night in the main cities in Peru and Argentina (except BA) for dorm style rooms. If you only plan on traveling for 2 months I would suggest either picking a country in South America and just traveling around it or going for Central America. I spent a month in Ecuador and barely saw anything, a month in Peru and only made it to 3 cities, and a little over a month in Argentina (while I saw most of Argentina I also went on 50+ hour bus rides and was constantly moving). Thanks for the info about your trip to SA. I've decided to go to Central America. I'm still figuring out my plans as to where I'm going to start/finish but it looks like volunteer work or work in exchange for accommodations is what I'm going after. I'd still like to do South America at some point, hopefully in the future 😊 Madga I hope you have a great time and experience with your travels to SA! Reply to this

Hi guys, I'm Phil. Will be starting in Guatemala April 2010. Intend to learn Spanish and teach, volunteer there for a month or so, and then head south volunteering and teaching until i reach Argentina, pretty easy going so no time scale, just want to experience as much as possible.

Keen to meet like minded folks if our travel paths cross. Reply to this

Hey Zobird and PhilK,

I'm heading to central february 6th. starting in belize and then working my way south to colombia for about 5 and a half months. i will be volunteering and taking some classes and maybe some WWOOFing and couchsurfing!! Zobird, i definitely recommend at least 3 if not at least 4 months, time goes by so quickly even if you only stay in one country! Phil, where in Guatemala are you starting? the north or south? Hey Kassi,
I'm also arriving in Rio on the 11th 😊 and staying there throughout the carnival, then I will probably go to see Sao Paulo and will be heading towards Iguacu Falls and Argentina (Buenos Aires), I do not have a strict plan so don't know the exact dates. I understand that you live in Chile? I'm planning to go there after Argentina 😊
I would like to meet up with you in Rio. How can we arrange this? How can I contact you? Reply to this
