Hi guys, I'm new to this forum here, just wanting to know what the cheapest way to travel around Europe would be. We are moving from Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Prague and Budapest. I'm traveling with another friend and we have gotten a price for Eurorail - $2150 (Aus) with reservations. We are travelling in August -1st November so I've been told that reservations are a must. Wondering if anyone knows any cheaper options or any tips that can help save moeny. Cheers

Hello Aaron 😊

The cheapest way would be to search for bargain plane and train tickets on the intenet and buy them in advance. Also, the more flexible you are about where you go, the more chance of scoring bargains.

Taking night trains for long journeys saves you a nights accomodation money.

The best deal I've been able to find (if you're going to multiple countries over a period of time) is www.raileurope.com. Research and call, they have good customer service, very helpful :D

Thanks guys for your suggestions! I've been told by a few people that reservations is a must since we are travelling in a busy season. I'll give rail europe a call! Reply to this

Hello,

This is my first time traveling to Europe. I'm very excited! I'll be traveling to Barcelona, Paris & Rome. I'm trying to book airfare (seems the cheapest way to go and the less time consuming) through Vueling.com but my credit card from the US keeps getting denied. I don't understand why? I've tried multiple cards without any luck? Can someone shed some light on this? I think Ryanair is the same. Is it that they don't accept USA credit cards?

Thank you! Reply to this

I don't think reservations are a must at all, as long as you;'re flexible. I've done high season interrailing several times, usually booking my next reservation one of two days in advance. Yes, trains CAN get full, but it doesn't happen THAT often.. at least not in my experience... 😊 Reply to this

By the way: I would recommend doing adequate research on train systems in Croatia, France, Italy and Spain. Have heard some stories about irregular/expensive train traveling there, even when you're using a supposedly all inclusive train ticket such as interrail. Was in Spain myself last january and had tot pay over 10 euros of additional fees to travel between Barcelona and Madrid (in comparison: I paid 1.50 for a sleeping train Cerbere - Paris and usually pay a night fee of less than 5 euros. I have never been charged at all for short distance of day trains before and was quite surprised when it happened to me). I also had great difficulty getting a cheap night train within France. It seemed almost all night trains charged over 50 euros of (obligatory) reservation costs. It took me 30 minutes of thorough research at the train station to find the one and only cheap (1.50 euros, I'm still proud of it!) seat on a night train. Reply to this
