Hi,
My girlfriend and I are planning on going to Europe in the middle of August. We definitely want to hit four countries:
France - Paris
Germany - Hamburg
Italy - Venice
England - London
We are looking for the most cost effective way of getting from place to place. Are we better off to train from city to city or is it more cost effective to fly? We are complete Europe newbies and any tips or advice you can offer when traveling to europe would be most appreciated!
Thanks
Reply to this Hanevin,
I think the quickest way to do it is London - Paris - Hamburg - Venice. Train travel in Europe is pretty well-organised and probably no more expensive than flying in most cases, but you may want to go by air and save time, especially between Germany and Italy.
Hope that helps a little,
Jon

I would use a combination of flying and train, depending on which bargains you can score. Night trains are also an option for saving on accomodation costs. Try to buy the tickets as far in advance as possible and be a bit flexible about the dates you will travel to get the best prices.

Reply to this Hi,
Lodon to Paris, Eurostar is more efficient....as it goes from city center to city center...but do check BA and Easyjet...flights from Heathrow, easy.
Paris to Hamburg...more tricky...check on Air Berlin. But you may be able to find a night train....you save a night of hotel.
Hamburg to Venise, I would take a night train, cheaper by all means.
You may want to check a eurail deal.
Reply to this The best way is by train. Forget about flying. Most European airlines have weight restrictions and you might wind up paying a lot of money for your luggage. Also, it will cost you time and money getting to an (not all of them are in the city) and you will also need to get there early. Save the aggrevation and take a train. They are safe, reliable and on time. Google some local train companies within the countries and you will find even better deals than on eurail.
