2 weeks through Spain, the South of France, Italy with sister

Hi everyone,

My family is taking a 10 day tour through Venice, Florence and Rome in late June-early July. My sister and I are fortunate to have some time to fly to Europe in mid-June. We also have a few extra days in Rome after the tour.

My sister and I have talked about flying into Spain and then visiting the South of France. I would love any suggestions for where we should focus our time in Spain or France (or Rome). To give you an idea, I enjoy taking pictures, long hikes, natural beauty and eating great food/wine. I am not opposed to tourist spots or even some nightlife!

I'd love to hear what you enjoyed about your experiences in any of these spots. Also any information about rails, buses, etc?

Thank you very much. Reply to this

I would have a couple of suggestions on the long hikes and natural beauty section.

In the north of Italy, there is a place known as the Cinque Terre, which gets rave reviews from people who visit - it is an excellent place for walking.

The Pyrenees Mountains that border Spain and France are beautiful - there are some great hikes through there and even villages that cannot be reached by car (no, I haven't been to those).

The south of France is not my area of expertise, I drove along it, but did not stay there stay there (apart from Nice).

If you love photo spots, I found Spain to be very beautiful in this regard - and I could name a couple of places which I do frequently recommend in these forums - the Alhambra in Granada is a photographers dream - especially the night visit in the Nasrid Palace. I also love Madrid for it architectural beauty.

The cities you mention in Italy - Rome, Venice and Florence - will also have you filling your memory card in no time - they are all very photogenic. Reply to this

I would recommend you the following itinerary in Italy:
venecia - padova - Milan - Genova - Bologna - Napoli - Cantanzaro - Messina - Palerno - Cagliari (in Sardegna) - Rome!

I think is one of the most beautiful ones and you can really have a deep insight of Italy.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I decided to fly into Barcelona, then we will take a train to Southern France, maybe Aix-en-Provence or Lyon, then to Venice to meet with my family.

Any suggestions for what do to in Rome with my parents? I guess I will learn more once we take the tour there as well. Reply to this
