Hello,
i was inquiring to see what city the fantastic castle that inspired the Disney castles is located in?

also is there anything else you would recommend to see or do in the surrounding area? I will be visiting the castle on a day trip in March when I'm in Cortina Italy and wanted to make the most of it soaking in as much culture as i possibly can whether it be restaurants, shops, attractions or other scenic spots. Hello Geoff 😊

Neuschwanstein is near Fussen and Schwangau, which are in Bavaria.

...also is there anything else you would recommend to see or do in the surrounding area?

Get a Bavaria train pass for around 29 Euros. It covers up to 5 adults and a number of kids. You could visit the towns in the Alps and there are lots of pretty towns in Bavaria worth taking a daytrip to. And dont forget Munich. It is only 100KM from Fussen. The old part if Munich is well worth hanging around, and if you like browsing in Museums then Munich has plenty of them.

It actually depends what time of the year your going. In the summer theres loads to see since all the roads are open, but your travel is kinda limited in the area during Winter. So in March you may have problems lol. Im in a ski village in Austria, just about 20 min from the German border only about 45 min away from Neuschwanstein, but in the winter due to the roads closed it takes over 2-3 hours :/

I would definetly agree with Mell and recommend seeing Munich too. It isnt far and it has loads to see. Especially if you like traditional German Biergärtens! Also if you have some money to spend the skiing around here is unmatchable and the views from the top of the lifts unforgettable. Reply to this

oh I'm all for seeing anything and everything i can 😊 which is probably why i opted to take a couple of day trips versus snowboard the entire time I'm in Cortina.

any must have food or drink items that simply cannot be passed up?

how long have you been in Austria? Reply to this

The Bavarian breakfast speciality is white sausage and Brezen(big prezels).

If you are here in Bavaria in Summer time the Zug Spitze is well worth a visit becasue there is snow up there all year around. I went there for my birthday in June one time. It was 30 degrees in Munich but we were throwing snow at each other on the Zug Spitze

I've been in Austria for about a month and a half now, I have family here so I come pretty often to visit.

As for food theres a ton I could recommend. If your a vegetarian you wont like the food much since its all sausages and meat haha. Id recommend getting zwiebelrostbraten, its a thin beef steak grilled with onions and usually served with potatos and a salad, its my personal favorite. OR heres a few more simple traditional meals

-- Weinerschnitzel with "pommes" (fries)
-- Käsespetzle (not sure how Id describe this one, its noodle-like pieces with cheese and onions. But Im definetly not giving it justice, its absolutely delicious despite how it sounds lol)
-- Bernerwursten (sausages stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon)
-- or the real simple Frankfurters and fries

Theres also a ton of deserts to try like Kaiserschmarnn and Germknüdel
