How much is one looking at saving to head off to Europe for 6 months to a year?

Can someone give me a rough idea on how much I need to save for to go backpacking in Europe for 6 months to a year, living as minmally as possaible while still experincing and taking in the culture?

Oh, a piece of string question! Difficult to say but the more expensive places are in Western Europe, such as London, Paris and Geneva. East Europe still have good bargains, such as Krakow in Poland, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Romania and so on. Money could go further in those countries. Say for London, budget around £60 British pounds per day for accommodation, food etc but easily halve this for Bucharest, Romania, especially with the exchange rate. I lived in Belgrade for 2 years, and it's easy enough to survive there on £30 daily with cheap beer etc. Reply to this
