When I was in Paris I got around on the metro. It is inexpensive and extensive.

Reply to this The metro system is very good. Just watch out for pick pockets.
They are notorious and, my first time on it, a thief and undercover police got in a fight as the thief tried to pick my pocket.
Still, I suppose it's a cultural experience!
