Fun stuff to do in and around the base
15 years ago, October 21st 2008 No: 1 Msg: #52144
I'm going to be spending Christmas and New Years visiting my cousin who is stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base. Any tips on fun things to do in and around the area? Also, I've always wanted to visit Berlin. Is this possible from Spangdahlem? Are there trains from the area to Berlin? Any tips would be much appreciated. Reply to this

Berlin is basically at the opposite end of Germany from Spangdahlem.

Spangdahlem is - no real surprise for an air base - pretty remotely located.

Trier, the oldest city of Germany, is the next bigger city.

Till 22. December there is a Christmas Market in Trier.

Closest train station to Spangdahlem is Bitburg-Erdorf.

DB timetable
From: Tor, Spangdahlem
To: Trier
To: Berlin
To: CGN

You could also fly from Hahn (HHN) or Cologne/Bonn (CGN) to Berlin.
There are shuttle buses from Trier to Hahn (which are not displayed by the DB timetable)

Tor = gate (albeit the same roots as the English word door)
which means the bus stop at the (main) gate of the air base in this case
