Hello Sue 😊

I think most of those places are reasonably safe especially during daylight hours. I have been in most of them alone. When you get to the particular cities ask hotel or hostel staff if there are any areas you should avoid at night.

Hello,

I studied in Prague 6 years and I never had a problem 😊

In the city center you can not have a problem. Just a few rules:
Taxi in Prague should be around 30 CZK per km (1,5 USD) but some of them can bill to a foreigner even 10 times more - better is to speak about the price before you go into the Taxi. I recommend you to use the public transport - it is well organized but beware of pickpockets - ussually gipsies. Change the money always in the exchange office or in the bank.

I agree with Mell. Most of the places are safe, you can consider a place depending on the cost of living. Reply to this

One place you should try and consider in Europe is Venice - wonderfully atmospheric city and great for a solo traveller as it's safe and very easy to navigate around. No traffic in the city, so you wouldn't be dodging cars etc.

On your list, I would consider all those countries safe. One thing in Amsterdam, accommodation can be a real problem there - there's not many hotel rooms compared to number of travellers, so best to book well in advance and ensure your room is not in the Red Light Disrict, which while safer than previously, I wouldn't advise being there alone overnight. Switzerland is terribly safe but incredibly expensive.

It might be worth you reading various travel guides and making up your mind. Look on respectable newspaper websites such as the Independent, which has an excellent travel section. Reply to this

I don't see any security related problems with the countries you mentioned. But I'd be careful in Spain. Don't know why, but it didn't seem too... secure.
Have fun!
