Getting around in France?

Is there a reliable bus system that would be cheaper than trains in France. We are looking for long distance not inner city buses.

We are heading over to France by ferry from Ireland tomorrow and are having trouble finding other ways of transportation other than trains. They seem so expensive in comparison to Ireland's public transportation!We are unable to even find a bus company that is nation wide...Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Reply to this

Trains are the only viable public transport system in France for long journeys.
In towns there are buses. Inside departements or counties there are limited bus services between towns but between departements or regions - non existent. Protectionism is the French disease. They protect the SNCF by forbidding bus services like National in the UK. Reply to this
