Help Getting From Germany to France

Rothenburg to Avignon overnight?
15 years ago, September 1st 2008 No: 1 Msg: #47544
Myself and my friend are trying to work out the best way to get from Rothenburg to Avignon (preferably overnight) on the 21st September.

However I have been having trouble finding the best way to do this. Coaches (e.g. Euroline) don't seem to run on the 21st (a Sunday unfortunately) and the German national train site gives journeys which have several stops, usually including Geneva. Unfortunately my friend cannot enter Geneva as she is from China (visa problems, etc...).

So I am a bit stumped as to how or where to travel from in Germany as I have never been to Germany before and so I have no knowledge of where the major transport areas are.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Many thanks. Reply to this

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: Rothenburg ob der Tauber Bahnhof
To: Avignon Centre

The connections I checked where mostly via Paris. None via Geneva.
Night train is only possible on a rather small part of this route. This makes thus no sense.

You can buy from DB online tickets to Paris Est. There is e.g. on the 21. September Rothenburg dep 09:06 to Paris Est a connection still available for EUR 69,00 at the moment.
By default the DB timetable will suggest to start at 09:08 by bus. Saves 2 minutes. Stupid computer programs ;-)
Means of transport -> More and deselect the bus option there

In Paris you have to transfer by metro between the stations. In this case to Paris Lyon.

From Paris to Avignon check with www.sncf-voyages.com

Thanks for the advice. Is it easy enough to get from Paris Est to Paris Lyon? How long would you suggest to leave between getting between these two stations. I have no experience with using the Paris Metro. Reply to this
