Hello,

We are visiting Italy this month (July) for 6 days. As we will be on our own, we will travel in Italy by train. We will be visiting Venice, Florence, Pisa & Rome.

Please can someone advise us what will be the best option to book the train tickets ? Should we book it online or should we buy it at the station itself ? Your advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi there!
If you book tickets online you can print them in any train station, there are like self service tellers for buying directly tickets there or printing online booked tickets, i think that the price doesn't change much, i don't travel often by train but i usually buy tickets directly at the automat just to avoy ques! for you maybe it's better to book online so you can have a reservation for the seat, thet's necessary for eurostar trains and i would recommend it even on other trains if you don't mind standing for a long time, once i did venice-milan (some 3 hours sitting on the floor because i hadn't booked a seat and there was none free!)
Eurostar are the most expensive trains, they are very comfortable and they get you drinks and stuff. i wouldn't take a regional train if i were you, it's very cheap but it stops everywhere, even the smallest and never heard of stations! get and intercity o interregionale if you manage, they are rather comfy and not too expensive, for quite long distances they are ok in my opinion.
Hope i was helpful! enjoy italy, venice is my super favourite city! Reply to this

You can easily get a rail pass around Italy that allows you to travel anywhere over a certain number of days Holiday in Italy has some websites for Italian railways with those rail passes Reply to this
